HAPPY NEW YEAR, FELIZ AÑO Y BONNE ANNÉE!

Bueno, bueno, bueno... sé que hace rato que no publico nada aquí. Pero es que he estado pensando. Llevo unos 3-4 meses pensando.

OK, alright, alright already... I know it's been a while since I wrote anything here. It's just that I've been thinking. I've spent 3 or 4 months thinking.

Thinking about the odyssey/ordeal it is to be a musician in this world. Such a strange combination of frivolity, enjoyment, restlessness and financial instability!

Thinking where, among my various occupations, passions and duties, to hang my musician's hat -- the walking stick I call XUMAPAZ.

Thinking about how to value something that no longer has the same value it once had, or isn't valued in the same way... how to adapt to changes in rhythm -- both personal and market-related -- to keep on making music that satisfies me and will be valued by those who listen to it.

Thinking on paper and on the screen, playing or staring at the ceiling, until I came to the conclusion, the same conclusion as always: (enter Mickey Rooney) I JUST GOTTA PLAY AND I JUST GOTTA SING! Alone or accompanied, with a few or a bunch, with the same musicians as always or strangers I've never met before, wherever, wherever they'll let me, for whatever they got and with whatever's at hand, but...

ALWAYS WITH SOUL.

In 2010 we watched as venues and organizations found it increasingly difficult to accommodate a ten-piece band. Not to mention the effort required to herd that many cats into a rehearsal space, recording studio, etc. I think I got tired. And with a tired mind and a tired body, melodies are scarce.

So, in 2011 XUMAPAZ, which in the end is ME, SALLY, will do some adapting, shrinking a bit in size from time to time in order to expand the spirit and return to THE VOICE... above all, THE VOICE. To see if maybe it will speak to me, to us, and tell us how the hell... where the hell... we are to get on with the odyssey.

I wish you peace and joy and an excellent new year.
